Hamilton is the best F1 driver: ''He doesn't need nasty tricks''

At the end of 2020, Andy Cowell will leave Mercedes as head of the engine department. The Briton worked with great champions, but is most appreciative of his current collaboration with Lewis Hamilton.

From 2014 Mercedes is hard to beat and the most important part of that winning package is Andy Cowell. Cowell is responsible for the engine department at Mercedes, but will say goodbye at the end of this season. Cowell has already worked with big names such as Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen, but chooses Hamilton as the best driver.

''Lewis is the best. He is exceptionally talented and always curious about what's going on. He does everything he can to move the team forward and make it better, and with that attitude he pushes the team to the maximum. Lewis is competitive, but will never push it so far that it becomes a foul play, as some people do," says Cowel in Beyond the Grid.

''Lewis is a huge example to all the people at the factory. When someone reaches that level, you think to yourself that you want to reach that level within the organisation. He wants to win, but in an honest way. He really wants the field of participants to be fairer. I admire Lewis as a man and a driver'', Cowell concludes with praise.
