After the announcement that Sebastian Vettel would no longer be driving for Ferrari from 2021, it became known pretty soon after that Carlos Sainz would be his successor. The Spaniard has been preying on a seat on a top team for some time now (is Ferrari still a top team?).

By contracting Carlos Sainz, team boss Mattia Binotto excluded Formula 2 driver Mick Schumacher from Ferrari. However, Binotto does not rule out Schumacher getting a seat on another Ferrari engine-powered team: "I believe Mick is doing really well now, and also a lot better than last year," said Binotto to Autosport.

Patience is extremely important

Despite the good performance of the son of the legendary driver Michael Schumacher, Binotto wants to be especially patient with the young driver for now: "We have always been clear against Mick: his performance this season will be important to him. He won't end up in an F1 seat until we believe he has made enough steps. He just has to continue on this road. We will make a choice further on this season."
