Formula 1 is about to postpone the French and Belgian Grands Prix as well, but fans around the world are still hoping for enough races in 2020. One of those fans is former world champion Nico Rosberg.

Chance of defeating Hamilton

The German won his world title in 2016 and decided to pull the plug immediately after winning that title. Rosberg, who was mentally wrecked by the fight with Lewis Hamilton, decided to not race anymore after winning the title. A shorter season is therefore, according to the former driver of Mercedes, the greatest opportunity for a surprising world champion.

''I would love to have eight double headers, so there are at least sixteen races on the calendar. However, with as few races as possible, we have a better chance of getting a surprising world champion. If the favorite Lewis has bad luck a couple of times then that could cause big surprises'', Rosberg opposes Reuters.

Less training

As a big favorite you want as many races as possible, so the margin of error is reduced. The bigger the championship, the bigger the chance that the fastest guy wins in a whole season and not someone who's had a couple of rides. The preparation for the coming season is not that important though, Rosberg thinks.

''Look, Chris Froome has to spend six hours a day spinning to stay fit for the Tour de France, but drivers have it a little easier in that respect. All riders just have to stay fit, but there's not much more you can do. In any case, it's not possible to practise racing'', Rosberg concludes.
