Martin Brundle is a fan of Carlos Sainz. The former Formula 1 driver believes the Spaniard should be one of the top choices to join Charles Leclerc at Ferrari in the long term. Brundle also states that Sainz showed it in his rookie season in the Formula 1, against Max Verstappen.

When Express Sport asks Brundle if McLaren should be concerned now that there are rumours of a switch from Sainz to Ferrari, he replies: "Yeah, if he's out of contract. I've always championed Carlos and to McLaren when they weren't sure about taking him," Brundle said.

Fight between Ricciardo and Sainz?

Carlos Sainz Sr. was rally World Champion twice. "I think he's got his dad's kind of sporting winning mentality - a double World Rally Champion of course, his dad. I think you've got Daniel Ricciardo, possibly out there [as an option for Ferrari] as well," he continued.

Sainz was a teammate of Verstappen at Toro Rosso in 2015 and early 2016. According to Brundle, the level of difference was small. "But I think Sainz was very close to Verstappen when they were at Toro Rosso. It got political. It got dad and lad against each other from both sides of the garage and they went with Verstappen, which I think you would do all day long. But I think Carlos was a really good match for him."
