The late call to cancel the Australian Grand Prix weekend meant that the crowd had started forming around the gates. This led to a lot of angry fans when they were told they couldn't come into the circuit even though some had travelled from afar. Paul Little offers his apologies.

Little says, according to RaceFans.net, that the consultation between all parties went as smoothly as possible. Little was in constant contact with the medical staff on the track during the time it took.

“From the Australian Grand Prix point of view, I just were to say sorry to our fans. The health and safety and welfare of teams and people, and the community generally, has to take precedence and it will and has," Little told RaceFans.net.

“We are very conscious of our responsibility to the fans. We knew they were trying to get through the gate. We were still taking advice from the medical officers and that was up until around nine o’clock-ish. We understood this concern was out there, but we really needed to speak to Formula 1, FIA again in the morning."

Could it have been handled better?

The fans outside the gates were fuming to say the least. A young child with his father were spotted walking around the grounds, and Mercedes have since tried to find and contact that person through Twitter.

A lot of disappointment came. Following the announcement that McLaren had a team member test positive, it took 12 hours to reach a conclusion. A lot of things had to be tied up. Formula 1's CEO Chase Carey was on route from Vietnam.
