Renault F1 team principal Cyril Abiteboul has said that he is ‘satisfied’ with the teams result at the British Grand Prix after scoring a double points finish.

After Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg qualified seventh and 10th both drivers matched their starting position at the end of the race.

But Abiteboul, despite being ‘satisfied’ with the result admits that there are still lessons to be taken away from it before the German Grand Prix.

Abiteboul said (quoted by The Checkered Flag): “Overall we can be satisfied with today’s result of having both cars inside the top ten.

“However, we know that higher finishing positions were possible.

“Firstly, with Daniel, without the intervention of the Safety Car, but our reaction to pit him was the right one after a perfect execution of an undercut earlier in the race.”

Abiteboul also praised Hulkenberg in making his hard tyres lasting until the end of the race while they could have pitted for a fresh set to secure the final point as well as stating that performanceshad been better at previous races.

“Secondly, while Nico drove an excellent race to make the Hards last to the end, we could have stopped him earlier as he ran out of tyres before Daniel,” Abiteboul added.

“He still deserves a lot of credit for taking the final point in adverse circumstances.

“But overall, at a power dominated track, in qualifying like in race, our competitiveness level has been stronger, even if the areas of weakness are still here and will be our focus for the coming weeks.”
