Weird that this can still happen to a four-time world champion

Robert Doornbos finds it "weird" how a slump can still come to drivers such as four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel - following his latest setback at Silverstone.

Vettel collided with Max Verstappen in Britain, meaning the German could only manage a P16 finish for the struggling Ferrari. Vettel has also been completely outperformed by his team-mate Charles Leclerc in recent races.

Doornbos believes the weekend was a "messy" one for the Ferrari driver and finds it "weird" how bad the four-time world champion's form is at the moment. The German has not drove impressively since his controversial second-place in Canada recently.

"Vettel was playing around," Doornbos said to Ziggo Sport. "This was really a messy weekend for him. That was also evident from the hit with Max. Just an estimation error. Weird that this can still happen at the level of a four-time world champion."

Doornbos described the collision as a "classic" moment: "This is a classic moment. You can see the predecessor has made a mistake. Then you know he's going to ride a defensive line. Then you have to put it right next to it. Vettel could not choose, chose too late and rammed the Red Bull fully behind."
