Former Formula 1 driver Michael Bleekemolen has claimed the under-pressure Pierre Gasly does not belong in the Red Bull Racing chair anymore.

Gasly only joined Red Bull in the summer following an impressive season at sister-side Toro Rosso, and with Daniel Ricciardo joining Renault, Red Bull promoted the Frenchman to become Max Verstappen's team-mate.

However, Gasly has scored just 37 points since his arrival, and a season-best finish of P5 for the French driver has piled the pressure on him. Speaking exclusively to GPBlog.com, Bleekemolen has insisted that Gasly does not deserve the seat anymore!

"Well, he (Gasly) does not belong in the seat anymore," Bleekemolen insisted. "He's been exposed. Time and again he says 'yes, but I just had to do this, I just needed that', but now he has become the testing car.

"You don't want that. Of course, you want a prominent person who can actually help and challenge Max."

Asked if the French Grand Prix, where Gasly finished P10, was the moment that confirmed the Frenchman wasn't ready for Red Bull, Bleekemolen answered: "Well no, you just give him the benefit of the doubt, but now it's over. He just doesn't have it. He's not on Max's level."
