Helmut Marko is confident that Red Bull will be able to split the Mercedes duo in Monaco. Max Verstappen managed to get on the podium last time out, but Marko is hopeful the Dutchman will go one step further.
Despite some problems in FP2, the Red Bull advisor was pleased with how the RB15 performed on Thursday.
“The steps we took during the first two training sessions were probably the right ones. We have to wait and see if Mercedes opens party mode during qualifying, but I can imagine that we can split the front duo," Marko said to Krone.
Last year, Red Bull won the Monaco Grand Prix with Daniel Ricciardo. Verstappen was quick, but a crash in FP3 hampered his chances.
“Until his crash, Max was here quickly last year. He may not have such good memories of Monaco, but he showed in Singapore that he still feels at home on street circuits," the Austrian continued.

“In the third sector in Barcelona, where slow turns demand a lot of traction, Mercedes was clearly superior. If we take this as the benchmark, it doesn't look good. For now, we have to take into account the scenario that they will continue to dominate as far as Abu Dhabi."
