According to Mick Schumacher's family friend and long-time junior formula team owner Nicolas Todt, the young German is satisfied to wait for his Formula 1 chance.

Schumacher; won of Michael Schumacher, the seven-time world champion - was moved even further into the spotlight last year, securing his first major title in Formula 3.

At 19 years of age, Schumacher was linked with a move to Toro Rosso for the 2019 season, but he will instead take a smaller step up to Formula 2 next season, remaining with Prema.

Todt, son of FIA president Jean Todt, believes a patient approach from Schumacher will serve him better in this situation.

"Mick does not say now or never. He knows he still has a lot to learn. He is young," Todt told Speed Week.

"The goal is not to sit in a Grand Prix racer as soon as possible. The goal must be to get to Formula 1 and stay there. I think it is very important to get well prepared for Grand Prix racing. You have to prove in the junior classes that you can regularly win or even dominate. Then it's time for the next step.

"Most drivers rush everything, and that later turns out to be a mistake."
