Brawn describes F1's biggest issue in 2018

Formula 1 boss Ross Brawn believes Liberty Media produced an entertaining campaign to fans - but he remains concerned about the gap between the top three and the rest of the grid.

As has been the way for some seasons now; Mercedes are dominating F1, Ferrari are on their tails and occassionally offering stiff competition and Red Bull Racing are in third place - but a considerable way ahead of fourth place, normally.

Since F1's aerodynamic changes in 2017, only two drivers outside of the top three have secured podium finishes - Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in successive seasons.

The regulations will be altered again in 2019, with the owners' intent clear: to try and promote more exciting and cleaner racing.

"We had a very exciting season," Brawn told Autosport. "There were great battles on the track! And we had an exceptional performance from Lewis (Hamilton): the consistency he showed the whole year, he didn't make any mistakes, he was relatively patient, when perhaps he didn't have the best car.

"So, it was a great year," the F1 boss continued. "My only reservation is we still have the situation where six cars are dominant and there are 14 cars too far behind. We have to keep working on finding a solution to give a more complete performance throughout the whole grid."
