Jean Todt, President of the FIA and Michael Schumacher’s former boss has given insight into their relationship as he collected the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from German magazine Auto Bild.

Todt had been working for Scuderia Ferrari before taken on the role of Ferrari CEO between 2006 and 2008 and then becoming president of the FIA a year later.

"I am very touched, I almost cry. If you succeed, you will be glad if you can give something back. That's what I do now as President of the FIA." Todt said speaking of receiving the award.

Schumacher was at Ferrari between 1996 and 2006 before becoming an adviser in 2007. He won five world championships in a row with Ferrari between 2000-2004, adding to his two previous in 1994 and 1995, as well as earning the team five consecutive constructors’ championships.

Five years ago in 2013 he suffered life changing injuries to his head whilst on a skiing trip with his son in Meribel.

"The time with Michael will always be remembered as the best of my life.”

"We love each other because we wrote an incredible story together."

"And because we always stuck together in difficult times. "

"Pictures of him hang everywhere in my offices and apartments."

Todt visits Schumacher “a minimum of twice a month” at his home in Gland, Switzerland.
