Horner gives rivals hope: 'Verstappen's dominance won't last forever'

Is Formula 1 getting boring? Many people think Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing are too dominant and Lando Norris triggered that conversation this weekend. The Dutchman has dominated since the 2022 regulations were introduced. However, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner thinks people should appreciate the triple world champion's success.

In 2021, fans of F1 were spoilt with a fantastic duel between Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen. Since then, there has been no lengthy battle for the World Championship.

Verstappen won 19 out of 22 races in 2023. His teammate Sergio Perez won the races in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. Singapore saw the only non-Red Bull victory, when Carlos Sainz won on behalf of Ferrari. During the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, Norris claimed that fans will find it boring and start to lose interest.

In 2024, Verstappen has also already won four of the five races he has driven so far. Despite this, Horner thinks it is nonsense to label Formula 1 as boring now. "I think that you have to appreciate success. Max is a special talent. It's a golden moment for him. As we've seen with every single driver, it doesn't last forever. I think it's about enjoying the moment, being in the moment. There's no guarantees that we'll be able to give him a car like this every year for the next five years. So, it's doing what you can while you can," Horner said.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull's top advisor, also dismissed those claims. Marko was not happy with the statements made.
