Alexander Albon will 'just' get a winter break after all, like all other drivers in Formula 1. The Williams driver was originally due to compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona, but negotiations reportedly came to nothing. At least that is what Chris Medland reports on X, the former Twitter.

Alexander Albon looked set to make his IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar Championship debut early next year. It was recently announced that Wayne Taylor Racing was in talks with a Formula 1 driver for a one-off entry in the 24 Hours of Daytona. Williams team boss James Vowles also agreed to an outing by his pupil.

Williams had already agreed

The team boss said shortly: "Nothing is fixed yet. But we would have no objection to such a guest participation." Indeed, the 24 Hours of Daytona falls during Formula 1's winter break, namely the weekend of 25 to 28 January. But despite this, it is all off for Albon.

What the exact reason is for missing out on this American adventure is unclear. A possible factor is that the 2024 F1 season starts early (2 March). Preparation for the very busy season starts weeks earlier, perhaps that is why the deal could not be completed.
