Max Verstappen holds a new record. Having won the most victories in a year, Verstappen now also holds the best percentage over an entire season. In doing so, he snatches the record from Alberto Ascari.

For Verstappen, it was already his 17th win of the 2023 Formula 1 season. That in itself is a record, because with every race Verstappen wins more this year, he walks further away from his own record of 15 wins in 2022. However, in 2023, Verstappen also broke a record held by Ascari.

Indeed, the legendary F1 driver managed to win 75 per cent of the races in a single season, holding the record for the most dominant F1 season until the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in 2023. With 15 wins out of 22, Verstappen reached 68 per cent in 2022, but things are different in 2023. Indeed, with 17 wins, Verstappen has won 77 per cent of the races, even if he would not win in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

A big record, although Verstappen himself does not care. "It's not about that. it's not something that when I joined Formula 1 I needed to have a 75% win record over a season. These kind of things come along when everything just works really well, I feel good in the car, the car is very competitive and the team barely makes mistakes as well, so then you can get a season like we are having, so for me it's more about just enjoying the moment and trying to maximise every single opportunity," Verstappen said at the press conference.

With his victory in Brazil, the Dutchman also passed Alain Prost in the ranking of most wins in F1. Verstappen is in fourth place with 52 victories. Verstappen can still pass Sebastian Vettel. The German achieved 53 victories in his F1 career.
