With third place in the 2023 World Championship, Lewis Hamilton is creeping ever closer to second-placed Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. However, the United States Grand Prix widened the gap again, as the Brit was ultimately disqualified for that. However, he does feel his car is getting better and better.

Hamilton satisfied after performance in America

"I think this is definitely the most positive I've felt this year," the Mercedes driver said. "In general, it's not been a terrible year. Just knowing the work that's happening, I'm in constant contact with the head of aero. I just feel like everyone's really on their toes and really ready to go. There are lots of things that we can improve on in terms of our processes, but I'm excited. I definitely believe that we're going in the right direction," said the current number three in the world championship.

Not only is Hamilton in a battle in the standings, but George Russell is also in another fight with him. Hamilton and Russell take on Ferrari with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the constructors' standings. Mercedes has a 22-point lead over the Italian Scuderia, so will have to defend it to secure second place. Red Bull Racing already became the constructors' champions in Japan.

Hamilton about the Mercedes car

A second place in the world championship naturally requires a consistent car. Whereas Mercedes' W14 did not run very well at the beginning of the season, Hamilton is now very satisfied with the car. However, he still sees things that can be improved

"I think definitely the step that we were able to take this weekend has given me a little bit more confidence in the car to throw it into the corners," the seven-time world champion revealed. "I really enjoyed driving around this track. There are still some of the fundamental issues that we're having with that with the car, which won't change until next year. But it was really positive," Hamilton concluded.
