Sauber team principal Fred Vasseur has backed up his driver Charles Leclerc when talking about the rookie's collision with Haas F1's Kevin Magnussen, saying the Dane's manoeuvre was "f*cking dangerous".

When Leclerc tried to move past Magnussen on the straight in the opening stage of the race, Magnussen moved over to defend, giving Leclerc no time to react, causing the Monegasque to drive into the back of the Haas. K-Mag ended up with a puncture and a damaged floor, which eventually forced him to retire, while Leclerc needed a new nose and also retired about 30 laps later.

The stewards decided that it was a racing incident and no penalties were awarded, which is something Vasseur doesn't agree with.

"From my point of view it was quite obvious, but there was no further action," Vasseur told Autosport.

"He [Magnussen] is involved in all the big crashes throughout the season, if you have a look.

"I'm not the referee, it's the FIA - they have to take decisions or not.

"The move was f*cking dangerous, he's moving always late, and one day we'll have a huge crash.

"When you are at 320km/h, it's more than dangerous."

Almost everyone agrees that the incident should have been pinned on Magnussen apart from Haas and the actual race stewards, it seems like, even though what the Dane did was technically not illegal.
