Max Verstappen has visually improved over the course of the 2018 season. It took him a few weeks to get going, but once he did, the Red Bull driver continued to develop. His father, Jos Verstappen claims he is now using his head more during races.

The Canadian Grand Prix was labelled as a turning point in his 2018 season. Prior to this, Verstappen made a few clumsy mistakes. In Canada, the media reported it was the first race his father was absent from the garage. Many pointed this out as the improvement factor, but Jos claims he is just thinking more.

"You can see the progress he has made during the year," Jos Verstappen told Ziggo Sport.

"After Monaco, he took some good steps. He now thinks a bit more during the races.

"Did I tell him that? Yes, several times," laughed the former F1 driver.

"We discuss everything together and he listens because we have agreed that I can always have my say. But he does what he wants."

Verstappen is now 24 points clear of team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian has won one more race than Verstappen, but stronger consistency places him higher up the ranks. So much higher that he is still within touching distance of Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen.
