Welcome back to The Greatest of Their Time. In the penultimate article of this series, we will be looking at one of the most thrilling yet dangerous eras in F1 history, the 1960s.

Jim Clark

The Scottish driver is always rated as one of the greatest drivers of all time and it’s obvious to see why. He won 35% of all his races and two titles, in 1963 and 1965. Clark is the only driver to record a perfect season in the sport, in 1963, when he scored 54 points. That was a time when only results counted towards the championship total. Tragically, he was killed during a F2 race at Hockenheim in 1968.

Graham Hill

The man who had to take up the reins at Lotus in 1968 after Clark’s death was Graham Hill. The 1962 champion kept the team together and delivered his second title in that year. Hill won 14 races in his career and later started his own team but sadly passed away in a helicopter crash with the core members of his team also perishing.

Jack Brabham

The only man to win a title in a car with his own name, the Australian won three world titles in his career, two of those coming in the sixties. The Brabham name stayed in F1 for a long time after he retired from the sport, and he will always be remembered as one of the most influential member in the sport.
