Daniel Ricciardo was left frustrated after the Singapore Grand Prix, as the Aussie couldn't gain a single place during the race and finished in P6, despite being on Kimi Raikkonen's heels for some time.

I had the pace to get back on his gearbox but I was never quite close enough to make a move. It's been a frustrating few months for Ricciardo, who doesn't seem to be performing at the same level at which he was at earlier in the season. The Aussie has been blatantly outperformed by his teammate Max Verstappen in the better part of the season, despite Ricciardo winning multiple races.

In Singapore, he qualified in sixth (compared to Verstappen's P2) and didn't manage to gain a single place during the race. The Aussie normally thrives on street circuits, so he must've been disappointed with the result.

"Qualifying is so important here and the race was really lost yesterday," Ricciardo told the official Formula One website.

“I could catch Kimi, I would stay close to him for a couple of laps and then I would have to back off.

"I had the pace to get back on his gearbox but I was never quite close enough to make a move.

"I really had to hope for a mistake or that Kimi and Valtteri would start tangling and I could capitalise.

"In Monaco, I listened to Lewis in seventh place complaining about following closely and now I understand what he was complaining about."

Ricciardo's teammate Max Verstappen claimed his sixth podium finish of the season, finishing in second place after starting there as well.
