Ferrari, who are widely regarded to have the best package in Formula One this year, reportedly still have under a thousand horsepower under the bonnet, which is set to improve drastically.

Unlike the past four years, Ferrari are mounting a legit title challenge in 2018. Sure, Mercedes might be ahead for now, but the gap is only ten points in the constructors' championship and 24 points in the drivers' championship between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Both gaps can be closed in a single race.

The only thing that's currently lacking for Ferrari is the relentless consistency Mercedes has. Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have had problems too often this year, which is why Mercedes currently have the small lead that they do.

Auto Motor und Sport now report that Ferrari still haven't passed the magic barrier of 1,000 horsepower with their current engine, which is the most powerful one on the grid. There is reason to believe that next year's engines will have well over 1,000 horsepower.
