Verstappen: Vettel's error could have happened to any driver

Max Verstappen has supported Sebastian Vettel following his error which cost him the German Grand Prix yesterday. Verstappen said the incident could have happened to anyone else on track as conditions were very challenging.

At one point, all five tyre compounds were in use on the circuit. The Dutchman was one driver to test out the intermediates, but soon realised it wasn’t wet enough. Ferrari kept their drivers on slicks. The German ran wide in the stadium section of the track, beaching himself on the gravel.

“It was super tricky out there,” Verstappen said in support of Vettel. He continued to speak to GP fans and said: “Even if you experience the slightest lock up there, you immediately go off. This were very difficult circumstances. So things like this can happen.

“It could have happened to someone else just as easily. You just try to find good grip everywhere, but you don’t want to the too many risks because you already have some good points in the bag.”

Verstappen himself benefited from Vettel’s off as he picked two more points than he would have done without. This puts him 1 point behind team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
