Lewis Hamilton said he felt he could win the German Grand Prix despite starting in 14th position. Hamilton suffered a hydraulic failure in Q1 yesterday but came back through the field to win whilst championship rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out in the rain.

Interviewed underneath the podium by David Coulthard, Hamilton was jubilant after such a huge result. Asked if he felt he really thought he would win today, he dismissed the concept he couldn't.

"I did. It's obviously very difficult from that position but you've always got to believe.

"I just wanted to stay calm and collected. I'm so grateful, I kept pushing and kept believing and it happened. I really manifested my dream today.

"For those who don't know me - now you do."

Hamilton's win and Vettel's crash means he now leads the driver standings, something everyone would have thought impossible after qualifying yesterday. Whether or not his lead will last going into the summer break will remain to be seen at Budapest in a weeks time.
