Lewis Hamilton may still be at the top of his game, but the current British F1 flag-bearer is edging closer to the end of his F1 career. He currently doesn't have a 2019 deal but is expected to sign for Mercedes.

But after Hamilton, who is going to be the next home favourite at Silverstone? Luckily enough for the British fans, they've got three candidates knocking on the door. Lando Norris, George Russel and Jack Aitken are all in line.

Jack Aitken
Age: 22
Team: Renault
Honours: 2015 Eurocup Formula Renault Champion.

Aitken is well aware of the challenges he faces to become the number 1 British driver. In his interview with Channel 4, he talks about getting a drive in F1 as soon as possible.

"It's quite tough for guys like me to come through because you never really have a sense of when you're going to get in. You have to be ready all the time and for me, it depends what Renault are doing."

Lando Norris
Age: 18
Team: McLaren
Honours: 2017 F3 European Champion

Lando Norris is in a great position. At McLaren, Fernando Alonso has been giving him some advice. He says the help has given him a huge advantage.

"Not so much on a race weekend, because I tend not to intrude too much on Fernando's programs, but being able to race with Fernando in Daytona with him helping me - learning how he approaches any race weekend - it's a cool experience, and I did take away a lot from it," Norris told Channel 4.

Norris went on to confirm Mercedes are trying to get him onto the F1 race grid to give him the experience he needs.

"Mercedes made it clear to me if I perform then they will try and get me the opportunity somewhere on the grid. I feel like at the moment I am performing, I am ready for a race seat in Formula 1," Norris added.

George Russell
Age: 20
Team: Mercedes
Honours: 2017 GP3 Series Champion

Russel currently leads the F2 championship. He is well aware of all the British candidates he is going to coming up against. But looking at the bigger picture, he tells channel 4: "The future of British motorsport is in good hands."
