Mick Schumacher would still have preferred to drive in Formula 1 next season. The talented driver had to leave Haas F1 even though he felt he was going down the right path. Speaking to Auto, Motor und Sport, he is understanding of his former team's decision.

The American formation wants to work with experienced drivers next calendar year and therefore decided to swap Schumacher for Nico Hulkenberg. The German knows what it is like to push the limit in Formula 1, so Haas expects him to bring in more points than his predecessor.

Schumacher agrees that while working in the motorsport class, experience is very important, but regrets that he is not given the chance to get better. He thinks talents may not be given enough of a chance. "Possibly they do. Of course, I don't know how other young drivers are treated and can only speak from my own experience. It takes time," he states.

For the driver, however, it is no reason to despair. "It is disappointing in a way because I think I have done well this year. The team has taken a different decision and I have to accept that. Now I have to focus on the future."

Schumacher wants to continue as reserve driver

The talent does hope to still be in Formula 1 in 2023. Behind the scenes, Schumacher is said to be trying hard to continue as a reserve driver, with Mercedes seeming to be among the possibilities. For now, however, there was no final decision.
