It is 16 November and that means Christian Horner is celebrating his birthday. The British team boss blows out 49 candles today, but he has already had his two biggest presents: the Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing world titles. The birthday boy Horner is in the list of most successful F1 team bosses ever in a very fine line-up.

At the age of 25, Horner stops being a driver and moves to the management branch of the sport. He started at the Arden team operating in Formula 3000, in which he himself had previously been active. He built the team from the bottom up and made Arden look unbeatable in 2004 with Vitantonio Liuzzi and Robert Doornbos.

Horner in Formula 1

After his year of success, Horner went looking for a place in Formula 1, but a takeover attempt with Eddie Jordan failed. Indeed, Jordan did not need to see the Briton for a while after his token bid of one pound. Still, Horner was impressed, as Dietrich Mateschitz approached Horner via Helmut Marko to make the still young Briton team boss of the newly founded Red Bull Racing.

Horner started at the new Red Bull team in 2005 and was immediately good for several points. After narrowly missing out on the world title in 2009, the impossible happens in 2010. Red Bull took the double and beat all the superpowers in Formula 1. Indeed, they achieved this four times in a row.

Red Bull very successful

From 2014 Mercedes were very dominant, but in the meantime, they won some world championships again. In 2021, Max Verstappen won the drivers' title and this season Red Bull once again managed to win both titles. It makes Christian Horner now stand at 11 world titles in Formula 1.

To become the most successful team boss ever (if we look at the number of World Championships won), Horner and his team must continue to perform as he does now in the coming years. Currently, it is Ron Dennis who takes the crown with 17 world titles (10 drivers' and seven constructors' titles). Sir Frank Williams follows closely behind with 16 World Championships.

Where do Wolff and Horner stand?

Next is Toto Wolff with fifteen World Championship. He won them all at Mercedes between 2014 and 2021. After that, it is Jean Todt who delivered the best driver six times at Ferrari between 1993 and 2007 and managed to win seven constructors' championships. With 13 world championships, the former FIA president is fourth in this list. Colin Chapter is the number five. He too won thirteen world titles, but in percentage terms he won fewer races than Todt.

Christian Horner comes in sixth with 11 World Championships won. However, with Red Bull, due to the fact that the regulations change very little, he has good chances to win many more titles and progress in this list in the coming years. Moreover, at 49 years old, he still has many years ahead of him in Formula 1.
