Charles Leclerc is in a fierce battle with Sergio Perez for second place in the championship. During the sprint race, Perez finished in fifth place, one place ahead of Leclerc. This increased the Monegasque's deficit on Perez to six points.

Leclerc started from tenth place, after a disappointing qualifying Friday. Speaking to Viaplay later, he said, "From tenth place we couldn't do much. Not take too much risk at the start and try to keep the tyres good until the end. That's what I did. So yes, that was necessary today. It was just about gaining some positions today and putting ourselves in the best position for tomorrow."

Coming back

Mercedes was the fastest at Interlagos. Remarkable, Leclerc also thought. "Those guys are very fast. But looking at our speed, we are also quite strong today. So let's wait and see. I think we will start P5 because Carlos will get the penalty. So he will drop back to behind me. Hopefully we can push and get back to the front as soon as possible."
