Ferrari, after a disappointing Mexico Grand Prix, did not manage to open well in Brazil either. Carlos Sainz, for instance, finished fifth in qualifying, while Charles Leclerc did not even go beyond P10. Laurant Mekies, however, is by no means worried.

Ferrari's top man agrees that the Italian formation did not perform flawlessly in qualifying. Among other things, it made a strategy error with Leclerc being the only one of the driver field to go out on intermediates in Q3. Still, Mekies believes such a mistake should be allowed.

"We have [had] many, many good qualifyings this year, including in very tricky conditions," Mekies stated in conversation with Formula1.com. "There is, for sure, in these sorts of difficult situations always a lot to learn – about the right decisions to make, about the less right decisions to make."

Confidence in good outcome in Brazil GP

Mekies finds it frustrating that Ferrari cannot start up front in the sprint race, but argues that the team will work hard to get on the podium. At least for Sainz, that challenge will be big, as the Spaniard starts five places backwards due to a penalty for an engine change. Leclerc will have to work hard to get out of the midfield.
