Hamilton compares W13 to 2021 car in Austin: "Horrible"

Lewis Hamilton is incredibly happy with the updates Mercedes has brought to the United States Grand Prix, yet not everything is going to plan for the seven-time world champion. This is because the bumpy track in Austin does not suit the W13.

After free practice on Friday, Hamilton compares his 2021-Mercedes to this year's W13. Mercedes has had problems developing the car since the start of the season. The team has yet to win a race.

The track surface of the circuit in Austin has caused difficulties for drivers many times in the past. There are many bumps on the track that can cause problems. Hamilton gives his opinion on the surface after the second free practice session. Earlier this year, the Briton was already in action at the US circuit in the W12.

Hamilton prays for better car in 2023

"Horrible. I came here after Montreal and I drove last year’s car, and it was so good. I remember just getting out and just beaming from ear to ear, because it was so smooth. It had good downforce, good power," the Brit is quoted by Crash.net.

The car has less power this season because of biofuels, but the W13 is also a lot stiffer than the 2021 Mercedes. "It’s just so bumpy and I’m really, really praying for a non-bumpy car next year," Hamilton says.

While the Mercedes is still not performing at its best, Hamilton is happy with the improvements that Mercedes' new updates bring. The modified front wing will not yet be used this weekend as the team does not have any spare parts. Mercedes hopes to run with the new front wing in the Mexican Grand Prix.
