Alonso denies his Le Mans win was easy

Fernando Alonso completed the second of the three blue riband events in motorsport as he attempts to become the second man to win motorsport’s triple crown of the Monaco GP, Le Mans 24 hours and the Indianapolis 500, after Graham Hill.
Toyota were the only LMP1 hybrid team at this year’s event after Audi’s withdrawal at the end of 2016 and Porsche leaving the sport last year.
This meant, barring mechanical issues, the race was pretty much sewn up for Toyota before it began, and sure enough, the Toyota of Alonso, Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastian Buemi came out on top.
However, Alonso denies that it was nothing more than just a procession.
“I think there was much more opposition [in 2018].

“This year we had the only hybrid system I think with 49 per cent more efficient than any other car, and it was a great challenge.
“I put this victory in a higher level than any other victory in Le Mans.”
Unfortunately, Alonso has a much lower chance of topping the rostrum in France this weekend, as he is back to Formula 1 and McLaren for the French Grand Prix.
