Recently, Alex Palou was allowed to take part in a Formula 1 test in Barcelona on behalf of McLaren, along with IndyCar colleague Patricio O'Ward. For Palou, a dream came true as he took a seat in the MCL35M.

Palou dreamed of F1 debut

Few people get the chance to get mileage in an F1 car, and Palou realises this all too well. The 2021 IndyCar champion did not expect to get this opportunity, let alone on home soil in Spain. Palou, therefore, calls the experience "really special".

"Unreal – really special. This has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid," said the Chip Ganassi Racing driver on the official website of McLaren. "I didn't think that I would ever have the chance to drive an F1 car, so to have the opportunity to drive one is really special. On top of that, getting to drive it at home makes it twice as special."

He continued: "I grew up coming to this circuit and visiting the testing days with my dad, so being able to drive an F1 car around Barcelona has been pretty special. I have been lucky enough to race in Europe, Japan, and the US, but it is great to come back to Europe and learn from an F1 team. There is so much that I can learn, and I cannot wait to continue."
