Mercedes were struggling for pace the entire week in Monaco but Lewis Hamilton did manage a podium finish, but the reigning champion still was left wanting more out of the Monaco Grand Prix.

He made a late charge for Sebastian Vettel in P2, who was struggling with his tyres late on in the race, but had to make do with P3.

"First of all, a big congratulations to Red Bull and Daniel, they did a great job this weekend and were quickest all weekend," he told David Coulthard after the race, only a minute after getting out of the car.

"It would have been nice to be second.

"I did everything I could.

"It was an interesting - or the least interesting - race."

Monaco Grands Prix are never not interesting, and there was plenty of drama in this one as well. There was a genuine doubt whether or not Ricciardo was going to finish at all, let alone finish first. He looked to be losing a lot of power when the engine problem became apparent, but the Aussie eventually pulled it out.
