This season looks set to be not only a battle on track between Red Bull Racing and Ferrari but also one of reliability. After the first few races of the season, Ferrari seemed to have the stronger car, but since the Spanish Grand Prix, Red Bull has shown that they are much stronger in terms of long-term reliability.

Peter Windsor sees this too, as he explains in his debrief on Youtube. He believes it is vital that Ferrari can get reliability under control in the coming races after Carlos Sainz crashed out with engine problems that even caused the engine to burst into flames. Sainz had to run to avoid being caught in the flames and according to Windsor, that must be a headache for the Italians.

Reliability must improve

"The season now opens up and from the French Grand Prix onwards they look like they've got a really quick car. They're continuing to develop it with very small upgrades as the basic package at Ferrari has been brilliant right from the start". So while the upgrades are fine, the reliability really needs to be improved.

"The problem of course has been reliability, and again we saw that manifest itself with Carlos. Let's hope that Ferrari get on top of that in terms of using engines throughout the year." Because if more engines are used, the Italians will face grid penalties. With half of the calendar still to go Ferrari are already dealing with grid penalties, which is anything but good news for Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
