Provisional starting line-up GP Canada | Many surprises due to rain
- GPblog.com
The rain has made for a very surprising starting grid in Canada on Sunday. Thus we find Fernando Alonso back on P2, both Haas F1 drivers are in the top ten and Perez starts only from the thirteenth position.
No penalties handed out after qualifying
The stewards were busy for a long time after the qualifying session of the Canadian Grand Prix, as no less than five drivers had to report back after the session. Carlos Sainz, Alexander Albon and Charles Leclerc were said to have driven too slowly and Guanyu Zhou and Pierre Gasly did not follow the instructions imposed by the race race directors. In the end, the stewards did not issue any grid penalties for this.
Grid full of surprises
As a result, the provisional starting grid looks as follows. Max Verstappen is joined by Alonso on the front row of the grid, with Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton behind him. For Hamilton, it is his best starting spot of 2022 so far. Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher occupy the third starting row. Zhou performed well and may start within the top ten for the first time in his fledgling F1 career.
In the second half of the grid we see several surprises. Perez disappointed with his crash in Q2 and will start from P13, Lando Norris had problems with his Mercedes engine and will start only fourteenth. Pierre Gasly didn't make it out of Q3, but due to Leclerc's grid penalty he may start from P15 with the two Aston Martins behind him. Leclerc will start from P19 and Yuki Tsunoda, also with a grid penalty, will round of the grid.
