Mercedes has been working hard over the last race weekend to close the gap on Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. For the time being, this is going through trial and error, but technical director Mike Elliot is confident that things will work out.

Elliot sees behind the scenes how hard the workers at the factory are working to give Lewis Hamilton and George Russell a better car. The director is therefore willing to go far this season to put Mercedes back on top, although he is keeping an eye on the complete situation.

Indeed, according to Elliot, it is not easy to stay on top of financial conditions. "There’s a budget cap that’s quite constraining and as a consequence of that, you have to make good decisions about both what we do for the rest of this year but also what we do for next year," he stressed in an interview with Motorsportmagazine.com.

Russell, in particular, showed the last few race weekends that Mercedes is on the right track. At the same time, the race often shows that the two top teams are still far ahead, making Elliot realistic. "Red Bull have made a really good start, Ferrari have made a really good start, and they’re not going to be easy to chase down."
