While Carlos Sainz impressed in 2021 by finishing higher in the championship than teammate Charles Leclerc, the Spaniard has yet to get a grip on the F1-75 that Ferrari introduced in 2022.

Sainz has struggled to adapt his driving style to the new generation of Formula 1 cars, but in the Monaco Grand Prix he came out on top. He went against the strategy imposed by Ferrari and chose to skip the intermediates himself and go straight from rain tires to slicks.

By his own account, he could have won the race, but due to less than favorable timing, he ended up between stragglers after his pit stop. Despite his strong race in Monte Carlo, he stresses that his struggles with the F1-75 remain present for the time being.

"You can see from the cameras and everywhere that I’m not there yet with the car compared to last year," he acknowledged in conversation with Formula1.com. He adds that he cannot drive "naturally" in the car as it is now, but that he will have to learn to deal with it.

However, he points out that this will take time. "You can either adapt yourself or bring your car a bit more to your liking. Anyway, these two things, they take time, and they take knowledge and experience. It takes mistakes and trial and error, and this is what I’m in the process [of doing]," the Ferrari driver said.
