Yuki Tsunoda knows the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya like the back of his hand and is looking forward to the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix. After a disappointing weekend in Miami, the Japanese driver wants to score points again, although that will not be easy.

Tsunoda celebrated his 22nd birthday in Milan last week and has since been fully preparing for the Spanish Grand Prix. The Japanese driver is currently 12th in the championship and has a four-point lead over his teammate Pierre Gasly. Gasly expects an exciting fight in the midfield this weekend, but thinks that the overtaking opportunities are limited. Tsunoda seems to agree with him.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is big challenge

In the AlphaTauri preview of the Spain race, Tsunoda says, "It's one of the European circuits I know best. In 2020, I finished fourth in both the sprint and the Feature Race in Formula 2. It's a technical circuit with a wide range of different types of corners. It's a real challenge for the cars."

Because all the drivers know the track well, Tsunoda also thinks that the teams in the midfield will be very evenly matched, creating opportunities for the team. Nevertheless, the Japaneseman thinks AlphaTauri still needs to continue to develop in order to fight for points more consistently. "I think we can make progress in Barcelona. Hopefully we'll have a good result and get points, but I don't expect it to be easy."
