'New Formula One cars faster on straights than in 2021'

Red Bull Racing has presented the RB18 for the 2022 Formula 1 season, but Pierre Wache's explanation is possibly even more interesting. In a video, he explains what we can expect from the new cars.

On Wednesday afternoon, Red Bull presented the new RB18 for the upcoming F1 season. There was little to say about the car itself, as there was not really an RB18 model. This was rather a prototype as used by F1 itself as a show model and not the real car with which Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will be in action.

Red Bull gives little away

In that respect, it is more interesting to listen to the plans of the men behind the scenes. In a video from Red Bull lay Adrian Newey, Pierre Wache and Paul Monaghan. Newey is still the headliner as Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing, but Waché is the official technical director.

''What they (F1) wanted to do was generate the downforce from the ground instead of the front rear wing. This will have an effect on how the car drives, what kind of grip there is and also the 'drive' of the car. This generation is very efficient so the car should be faster on the straight with equal downforce levels,'' said Wache.
