McLaren has looked on it all wekend, despite the flexiwing clampdown the FIA introduced from the Spanish Grand Prix onward.
With Norris taking the first practice session and Piastri taking the lead in the afternoon, Verstappen has been the most constant of the three, finishing in the top 3 in each session so far.
George Russell has also had positive practice sessions in Barcelona, with the Briton taking P2 during FP2, showcasing once again the qualifying pace potential the Mercedes car has.
Ferrari, has seen a mixed day with Charles Leclerc placing within the top 5 on both occasions, but with Lewis Hamilton going from strength to weakness, as the Briton couldn't even make the top 10 in the second practice session.
Although the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is not a track where overtaking is impossible, it is known to be somewhat challenging to gain positions on track without a substantial pace or tyre delta advantage, which makes qualifying particularly important.
Furthermore, this season has been described as a qualifying season, due to how evenly the teams are, and the increasing amount of dirty air the cars leave in their wake despite the spirit of the regulations seeking to minimise this very trait.
