Oscar Piastri pulls off a real piece of magic in the sprint qualifying at Spa, taking pole with a remarkable 477-millisecond advantage over an otherwise strong Max Verstappen, and more than six tenths ahead of his teammate. A solid result for Charles Leclerc, especially when compared to his teammate’s performance, while a fantastic drive from Ocon sees him put his Haas in fifth place. A disaster for Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli, both eliminated in SQ1, and for Tsunoda and Russell, who failed to make it past SQ2.

Sprint Qualifyings so far in 2025

For the third time this season, it is a Sprint weekend, meaning that already after a single free practice session, the Sprint Qualifying session will get underway. It will begin at 16:30 local time (15:30 BST).
The first of the season took place in China, when Lewis Hamilton completed his best Ferrari performance and ended up winning in Saturday's Sprint.
During the second Sprint Qualifying of the season in Miami, it was rookie Kimi Antonelli who set the fastest time for Mercedes, meaning that the dominant force of the season, McLaren, is yet to claim pole position in a Sprint Qualifying session.
The Belgian Grand Prix also had a similar format back in the 2023 season, when the Saturday event was still called Sprint Shootout.
That session was topped by Max Verstappen, who has a good track record at Spa-Francorchamps.
