It has been an eventful weekend at Silverstone so far. After Lewis Hamilton claimed Sprint pole on Friday afternoon, Kimi Antonelli won the Sprint at the British Grand Prix. Home favourites Hamilton and Lando Norris completed that podium. His teammate, George Russell, crossed the finish line in fourth place, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. Thanks to this victory, the Mercedes youngster extended his lead in the drivers' standings to 43 points over Russell and 47 points over Hamilton. Verstappen is now 103 points behind.

The final event of the weekend will be the British Grand Prix. In Qualifying, Antonelli capped off a perfect Saturday by claiming pole position. Leclerc will line up alongside the Mercedes driver, while Hamilton will start from P3. Russell has also been on the back foot compared to Antonelli and qualified fourth after a Q1 scare that nearly saw him eliminated early on.

Verstappen experienced a difficult Qualifying session, where he only finished seventh. Meanwhile, his teammate Isack Hadjar finished fifth, and will be joined by Norris on the third row of the grid. Oscar Piastri is set to line up in eighth place. A grid penalty was also handed out after Qualifying by the stewards. Alpine's Pierre Gasly was handed a three-place grid drop for impeding Lance Stroll in Q1.

The four-time F1 world champion was not satisfied with his result in Qualifying for the British Grand Prix, after the Dutchman only set the seventh quickest time.

"We tried, but in terms of set-up we didn’t really improve anything. On top of that, we’re simply slow on the straights. Somehow there seems to be something wrong with the engine. That’s my biggest concern for tomorrow," Verstappen said after the session.

The Red Bull Racing driver would therefore prefer Red Bull to intervene before the Grand Prix, even if it costs him grid positions: "Yes, preferably. If you stay here, you’ll just keep running here. Then you might gain one spot back. In that regard, I’d rather we do make some changes. It just isn’t running. We’re too slow on every straight."
