Richard Verschoor has won the sprint race of Formula 2 in Bahrain. The Dutchman managed to outsmart Felipe Drugovich at the start, survived a safety car and a virtual safety car after which he then drove away from the competition and so there were no more problems.
In the closing stages Jehan Daruvala and Ralph Boschung fight for second place. In the end, the former comes out victorious and Boschung even falls beside the podium. Liam Lawson finishes third, while Drugovich is fifth. The other Red Bull juniors Juri Vips and Dennis Hauger finish on P7 and P9 respectively.

Verschoor shows qualities

For Verschoor, it is a nice boost. The 21-year-old driver finished eleventh in the Formula 2 championship last season and seemed to be on his way out. Eventually, as the last driver of the current Formula 2 field, he was offered a contract with the Trident team. Verschoor certainly did not betray that confidence on Saturday afternoon.
For Verschoor, it is his second victory ever in the second tier. Last season he was also first in a sprint race at the Silverstone circuit.
