Tanabe doesn't know if Honda is going to renew contract with Red Bull

Honda has had two victories in F1 this season, one with Red Bull and one with Alpha Tauri. It brings satisfaction to the Japanese, but they are still unsure how long they will be in F1 for.

Toyoharu Tanabe was in Russia on Friday afternoon to answer some questions from the media. Among other things, the Honda boss was asked when he expects a decision from the Honda board on staying in Formula 1 and whether the Japanese will then remain exclusively tied to Red Bull and AlphaTauri.

The Honda contract only runs until 2021. "Actually, I am not involved in that discussion at all. I will take care of the technical side, so I have no answer to give right now," Tanabe says.

What is clear is that people are very proud of Pierre Gasly's victory in Monza. "We are very happy with his victory, and I mean Honda and the Red Bull family. The Japanese fans were very happy with his victory and to see him on the podium. We continue to push for both teams and are working hard to improve our performance," concluded Tanabe.
