Support for Steiner: 'It's okay for him to say, 'Dear guy, stop crashing'"

Mick Schumacher was the big man at Haas F1 in 2021, but this year the young German is struggling. He completely wrecked his car several times already and that earned him a warning from Guenther Steiner. Christian Danner understands that.

Schumacher criticized in media

Prior to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Steiner let it be known in the preview that Schumacher needed to stop crashing. Not everyone understood why the team boss had to play that through the media, but Danner thinks it's just part of the job.
The former Formula One driver let his light shine on the situation on German television at Sport1 . "That message to him [from Steiner to Schumacher] was high time. It's best for the boss to say after the chassis has been completely written off twice: 'Dear guy, stop crashing now'." In Jeddah and Monaco, little remained of the Haas F1 car.

Magnussen much faster

Danner himself raced for Arrows, among others. In 1986 he had to deal with Jackie Oliver. That team boss had not been as patient as Steiner: "I would have been fired immediately," Danner said. "Mick is a good driver with Formula One qualities, but if you regularly wreck your car and are a second slower than your teammate, you are not attractive to the teams."
Schumacher still stands at zero points after eight Grands Prix. Kevin Magnussen already collected fifteen points in as many races. The Danish driver replaced Nikita Mazepin just before the first race of the season in Bahrain, so he also had much less preparation time than his 23-year-old stablemate.
