Daniel Ricciardo has had a difficult year in many ways. Not only did his debut season at McLaren not go smoothly, but he also found it annoying that he had to miss his family for a long time. Every disadvantage has its advantage though because Ricciardo says he has grown on a personal level.

Ricciardo has grown

"I think already moving from Red Bull to Renault I went through some, call it personal growth," Ricciardo says in conversation with Speedcafe.com. Yet 2021 is the year he has grown the most as a person, he tells the Australian website.
The McLaren driver points to two factors that have underpinned this. "One was the challenges I faced with the car, and trying to obviously gel with that, and then I think the other one was obviously being away from home." Ricciardo switched from Alpine to McLaren last winter and there were quite a few things that came with that. For example, he struggled with the MCL35M of the Woking-based racing team.
It is known that Ricciardo is a family man. He likes to be at home but during the Formula 1 season that is not possible. The driver from Perth lives in Monaco because he can easily travel to all Grands Prix from his residence there. Because of all the coronary restrictions, it was also more difficult for his family to visit him.
