Red Bull pay high price for Verstappen's success: more than million to FIA

Formula 1 teams and drivers are a cash cow for the FIA. For every point the drivers conquer, a settlement follows from the international motorsport federation. Per each point, 2,100 euros must be transferred.

Verstappen currently stands at 433 points and with five GPs and two sprint races to go, he is likely to go above 500 points. That is a points record, but it comes with an extremely expensive bill. Verstappen will have to transfer more than a million euros as a result of his success.

The 26-year-old Dutchman will not have to tap that amount himself, where it has been contractually agreed by Max's manager Raymond Vermeulen that Red Bull will cover these costs.

Christian Horner, in conversation with GPblog and others, is reminded that Red Bull should put some extra money aside for this. The Austrian team also has to pay for the constructors' points and that number of points is also going to be a record. Horner laughs like a farmer with a toothache. "Thanks for that. Yeah, I forgot about that," said the team boss.
