Helmut Marko did not expect two Ferraris to finish ahead of Max Verstappen in qualifying in Mexico but worries towards Sunday's race the Red Bull Racing advisor does not have. He does not think Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz can keep the three-time world champion behind.
"Max had a little problem at turns 13 and 14. He lost about one and a half tenths in both runs," Marko reveals to ORF. He thinks Ferrari played a trick with the engine power to catch Red Bull off guard.
"They bluffed in all practice and were very strong now. That's a surprise. But I still think we will look better again in the race, that Ferrari will not be able to go as fast."
Daniel Ricciardo put his AlphaTauri in a neat fourth place ahead of Sergio Perez's RB19. Marko briefly mentioned the Australian's handsome performance: "And there was another surprise: [Daniel] Ricciardo. That's very positive for us."
