Sergio Perez is reasonably satisfied with his Friday in Spain. The Mexican was well slower than his team-mate Max Verstappen in both free practice sessions, but argues that there are many positives to take from both training sessions.

Perez positive

Perez finished second in the first practice session and fourth in the second, while Verstappen topped both practices. "All in all, I think plenty of positives to take from the day but we've got to pull our gear, you know, I think in Quali and try to understand the tyres as well. For the long run we'll be here for Sunday," Perez told GPblog and others after the second practice session.

New layout 'tough on the neck'

For the first time since 2006, there is no longer a slow final chicane at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, this has made the final sector a whole lot faster than before. "I think it's been a positive day in general, we've got good feelings but the important thing is to find good solutions for tonight so we can be competitive tomorrow but especially on Sunday," Perez said of the layout change in Spanish.
