Max Verstappen won the 2022 world championship with 454 points. Charles Leclerc came nowhere near as runner-up and failed to win a single Grand Prix after the summer break. Verstappen was supreme last season, but how dominant was Red Bull Racing's World Championship title compared to previous years.
There was certainly no tension in the championship last year in the second half of the season. Verstappen had actually already won the title, but the Dutchman kept on winning. Of the last 11 Grands Prix, no fewer than nine went to Verstappen. It makes Verstappen ultimately score 47 per cent more points than Leclerc, quite a number. Yet in this statistic, Verstappen 'only' comes in at spot three.
Because no, it was not the most dominant season in recent years. Sebastian Vettel picked up 64 per cent more points than his nearest rival Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari in 2013 (397 to 242 points). In terms of points scored, Hamilton's most recent title from 2020 was also even more dominant than Verstappen's in 2022.
The second title Vettel won in 2011 was also by a huge margin. After that, we see Hamilton in the list five times.
