Honda disappointed, but supports decision to cancel Japanese Grand Prix

Earlier rumors already pointed to it, but this morning it was officially announced that the Japanese Grand Prix of 2020 has been cancelled. This together with the races in Baku and Singapore, which also will not take place this year. For Honda in particular, the Japanese Grand Prix is very important as it is their home race and they have now responded to the cancellation of the race.

"It's disappointing that we will nog be able to race at our home track Suzuka this year," says managing director Honda Racing F1 Masashi Yamamoto on Twitter, "However we believe this is inevitable given the current global Covid-19 pandemic situation and we therefore fully support the decision taken by Formula 1 and the circuit owners."

He continues: "We hope the situation will improve soon so that we can race in front for our Japanese F1 fans again next year." Honda also hopes to be able to count on the support of all its fans, albeit not on the circuit this year, but via television.

Yamamoto: "Although we cannot race in Japan this year, the F1 season will resume from July in Austria. As always, we will be counting on the support of our fans to give us that extra bit of power, even if it's only through watching on TV."

"Let's hope we can put on a good show and have some exciting races after such a long break."
